BodyNorth Terms of Use

Effective: 4 October 2026

These Terms govern your use of BodyNorth. By using the app, you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy. The public Methodology & Limitations page explains how estimates are produced. Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. If these Terms conflict with mandatory law or Apple's terms, the controlling requirement applies.

Eligibility and scope

You must be at least 18 years old to use BodyNorth. The app is a general-wellness diary and planning aid. It is not a medical device, healthcare service, emergency service, diagnostic tool, treatment, rehabilitation program, or substitute for a physician, registered dietitian, physiotherapist, or qualified trainer.

Emergency warning: do not use the app for emergencies. Stop exercise and seek appropriate urgent care for chest pain, fainting, severe or unusual shortness of breath, signs of a serious allergic reaction, or other emergency symptoms.

Your responsibility

You are responsible for deciding whether the app and any exercise, meal estimate, calorie guide, or sleep insight are suitable for you. Provide accurate inputs, review outputs before relying on them, use equipment safely, follow food labels and professional advice, and obtain medical clearance when appropriate. Do not continue exercising merely to reach a time or calorie number.

Workout generation assumptions and limitations

The deterministic workout algorithm and optional AI Workout Coach use the choices available in the app, including goal, schedule, selected time, venue, equipment, exercise preferences, registry metadata and requests you explicitly record or type. The coach can also use saved lifestyle preferences and bounded meal and workout summaries described in the Privacy Policy. These partial records do not establish your form, injuries, symptoms, diagnoses, pregnancy status, disability, medications, recovery, complete training history, environment, supervision or equipment condition. Generated exercises, sets, repetitions, rest and RPE are starting points, not individualized prescriptions or guarantees of safety or results.

Review and replace unsuitable exercises, progress gradually, use a spotter or professional supervision where appropriate, and stop for pain, dizziness, unusual breathlessness, or loss of control. A selected long duration is a maximum planning window and does not require more sets or continued exercise.

Workout calorie estimates

Workout calories are broad estimates of active energy above rest. The app combines your entered body weight, time, exercise mix, and population-average MET ranges. Actual energy use can differ substantially because of pace, load, rest, technique, efficiency, fitness, temperature, illness, medications, and measurement error. A displayed midpoint or range is not a promise, measurement, safety limit, or instruction to compensate with food or additional exercise.

Meal-photo analysis assumptions and limitations

With your consent, an AI provider analyzes one meal photo. AI may misidentify food or miss hidden ingredients, portions, oil, sauce, sugar, fillings, cooking method, density, allergens, or items outside the frame. It estimates physical scale from recognizable scene context and typical dish or container dimensions when needed; those dimensions vary and cannot verify a recipe or nutrient composition.

Gram and calorie ranges are plausible estimates, not laboratory results, statistical coverage guarantees, or evidence that the true value is inside the range. Confidence describes model certainty, not accuracy. Product labels, recipes, and a properly used kitchen scale are better evidence. You must review and edit results.

Do not rely on meal-photo analysis for allergen safety, medication or insulin dosing, diagnosis, treatment, medical diets, or management of diabetes or an eating disorder. The app cannot confirm that a food is allergen-free or safe for you.

Daily calorie guide and sleep

The automatic daily guide uses the Mifflin–St Jeor equation, a self-selected activity multiplier, and a 10% goal adjustment. Population equations can be materially wrong for an individual and do not cover pregnancy, breastfeeding, growth, disease, medication, or unusual body composition. Apple Health sleep summaries depend on source-device data and algorithms that may be incomplete or inaccurate; they are not a sleep-disorder assessment.

AI consent and privacy

Meal-photo AI and Workout Coach AI are optional. After Sign in with Apple, BodyNorth presents app-wide AI-processing consent during setup. Accepting it covers both features and is recorded on your account. Consent is renewed when the terms, providers or data uses materially change.

For a meal scan, BodyNorth processes one resized, metadata-stripped photo through OpenRouter or Cloudflare AI Gateway and the selected meal-model provider (currently Google). For a Workout Coach request, it processes a recording of up to 60 seconds or a typed note, using Whisper for transcription and GLM for interpretation and planning through OpenRouter or Cloudflare AI Gateway. An enabled fallback may process the request after a primary-service failure. Routine adaptive adjustments run locally on your iPhone from saved rules and logged workouts without an additional AI request. Context includes the exact baseline, current workout preferences and limitations, computed age, calculation sex, height, weight, activity level, calorie goal, lifestyle preferences, bounded recent meal and workout summaries, active-session progress and prior structured notes in that request. Birthday, account/email identifiers, raw meal descriptions, meal photos, locations and Apple Health sleep data are excluded from workout model context. Meal-photo requests continue to exclude profile, location, Health data and workout history.

The service processes AI content to complete your request. Meal photos, raw audio, typed request text and transcripts are not retained by the BodyNorth service. Sending a coach request starts interpretation and generation automatically. Encrypted recovery backups from the retired Coach server may retain earlier copies for up to 31 days; new requests do not use that server. Validated structured context and proposals are encrypted in the active service for up to 24 hours, with earlier deletion after confirmed local saving, cancellation or account deletion. Protected temporary upload files on your iPhone are excluded from backup and diary sync and removed after completion, cancellation or expiry. Uploads continue during ordinary app switches; force-quitting before upload completes requires reopening to resume. Already accepted server generation continues. A preview is restored when you return with connectivity. Only Use plan applies the preview, adaptive training rules and requested preferences. You can refine or discard it, and a changed active plan requires an updated preview. Updates preserve logged work and may supersede unfinished exercises. A clearly labelled deterministic fallback also requires Use plan. No completion notification is required.

Optional meal voice recovery requires separate consent on first use. You may describe a failed or unclear meal scan in up to 30 seconds, then review the estimated foods, portions, calorie range, and assumptions before choosing Update meal. A spoken description can be misunderstood and is not a measurement. Your original entry remains unchanged if you cancel or discard the review.

One successfully generated voice estimate is included with an eligible meal scan. If the original photo already used an allowance, recovery uses no additional allowance. If the photo failed before using an allowance, the voice estimate uses one normal meal allowance. Failed processing can be retried; discarding a successfully generated review does not restore the included recovery. Additional details can still be entered with the normal meal-editing tools.

Optional iCloud sync

Diary sync uses your private Apple iCloud database when available and can be turned off in You → Data controls. Sync depends on Apple account access, connectivity and storage availability; offline changes can remain pending. Turning it off leaves existing cloud data in place. Photos, recordings and Apple Health-derived caches are excluded. See the Privacy Policy for synced fields and deletion behavior.

Accounts and acceptable use

Keep your device and account access secure. Do not misuse the service, evade quotas, interfere with operation, upload unlawful content, probe security, or use automated requests outside the app. We may suspend access reasonably necessary to protect users, providers, or the service.

Free access, Pro, billing, and cancellation

Each account has its own daily meal and workout allowance, enforced by the service and reset at 00:00 UTC. The app shows remaining requests and the reset time in your local time zone. There is no application-wide daily or monthly spending allowance that reduces your account's quota. AI requires internet access and provider availability; outages, rate limits, or provider funding problems can temporarily interrupt processing. Manual calorie logging, local diaries, and non-AI workout tools remain available.

The app includes local and manual features without a subscription. New accounts receive a 14-day welcome allowance of up to five meal-photo analyses and three AI Workout Coach requests per UTC day. After that, free access includes up to one meal-photo analysis and one AI Workout Coach request per UTC day. An active Pro subscription raises those allowances to up to 30 and 10 per UTC day respectively. Limits, providers, and feature availability may change prospectively; the app will show the current offer before purchase.

Pro is sold as an auto-renewing subscription through Apple. The exact price and billing period shown in the purchase screen are the terms offered for your storefront. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm. The subscription renews automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Apple may charge the renewal within 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel in Apple Account subscription settings and use Restore Purchases in the app when needed. Deleting the app or your BodyNorth account does not cancel an Apple subscription.

The 14-day welcome allowance is free app access and does not begin an Apple billing subscription or require cancellation. No separate introductory billing trial is promised unless the App Store purchase sheet expressly shows one.

Intellectual property and third-party components

BodyNorth, its branding, and its original content are protected by applicable law. Third-party components remain governed by their respective notices and licenses. Publication of the methodology does not grant rights to the app or branding, guarantee any outcome, or override these Terms.

Availability, disclaimers, and liability

The app and service are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis to the extent permitted by law. We do not warrant uninterrupted availability, error-free operation, accurate calories, safe or effective workouts, health outcomes, or compatibility with every device or provider. You assume the risks inherent in exercise, food choice, and relying on estimates.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, BodyNorth and its developer are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive loss arising from use of or inability to use the app. Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or liability that cannot legally be excluded.

Changes and termination

Features, providers, and these Terms may change. Material changes will be reflected by an updated effective date and, when required, additional notice or consent. You may stop using the app and delete your data at any time. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination remain in effect.
